Sailing Away

Starting a blog is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I thought I could use some of my time spent reading other travel blogs to start my own. This is also a year of travelling (more than the usual) and sharing my journeys through photographs and a few stories is the purpose of this blog. My home is in Luxembourg but I have been studying in the UK for the past three years - moving away from home to study and work has made me travel much more. Soon, I will be discovering and studying in Asia for four months before returning to finish my degree in Europe. This first post will be about my recent trip around the Mediterranean Sea – sailing around the Balearic Islands.

Our journey started in Mallorca, at Port d’Andratx. We arrived the night before departing and found ourselves walking along the port in search of somewhere to dine when we realised we had arrived on the first night of the celebrations of the Virgin of Carmen. Men in horses came and went and made their horses jump in every direction. People watched and a few ventured themselves inside the masses of spectators to touch the horses. It was not clear whether there was a superstitious reason or a tradition behind  it or whether it was a matter of showing off how much braver one was than the other.

We departed the next day on board of our cruise for the week, the catamaran Homaok. We sailed not too far from Andratx and continued our journey the following day towards our next destination: Formentera. We moored just off the Mallorcan coast on the first night. It was quiet, and the waters were still. Shortly after our arrival the sun started making its way down giving a mystical and peaceful aura to the landscape.

Port d'Andraxt is a quieter alternative to Palma de Mallorca and its location is ideal to set sail to Ibiza and Formentera.
